Big Emotions

Description:

This experience has been recommended by our Nido Early School Templestowe Curriculum Leader, Marjone Zeeman, who shares;

“Sometimes, little children need to deal with big emotions. Listen to this reading of the book titled ‘In My Heart’. Pause where appropriate and talk to your child about their feelings. Try to find examples of times when they felt happy, sad, or angry.”

Afterwards, go for a walk and collect some natural materials like stones, bark and leaves that have fallen. Use these materials to create faces that show different emotions.

Promote learning by:

While collecting these materials, talk to your child about taking care of the land by not using anything that is still growing. For instance, picking fallen leaves off the ground instead of picking fresh ones from the trees. If possible, replace the natural materials in the garden after use.

Encourage your child to show their own emotions with facial expressions.

Keep an eye out for any interesting critters you may discover when picking up leaves or stones.
